NFL legend Deacon Jones dies at 74

David “Deacon” Jones, the Hall of Fame defensive end credited with terming the word “sack” for how he knocked down quarterbacks, has died. The Washington Redskins said that Jones died of natural causes at his home in Southern California on Monday night. He was 74.

deacon_jones“Deacon Jones was one of the greatest players in NFL history. Off the field, he was a true giant,” said Redskins general manager Bruce Allen, whose father, George, coached Jones with the Los Angeles Rams. “His passion and spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him. He was a cherished member of the Allen family and I will always consider him my big brother.”

Because sacks didn’t become an official statistic until 1982, Jones’ total is uncertain. His impact as a premier pass rusher and team leader is not.

“Even with his fellow Hall of Famers, Deacon Jones held a special status. He was an icon among the icons,” commissioner Roger Goodell tweeted Tuesday. “He is warmly regarded by his peers not only as one of the greatest players in history but also for his influence & sense of humor.”

Jones was the leader of the Rams’ Fearsome Foursome unit from 1961-71 and then played for San Diego for two seasons before finishing his career with the Redskins in 1974. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980 and made the league’s 75th anniversary all-time squad.

“Deacon Jones has been the most inspirational person in my football career,” said former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Jack Youngblood.

Jones made the Pro Bowl every year from 1964-70 and played in eight overall. He combined with fellow Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier and Lamar Lundy on a defensive line that at times was unblockable.

Olsen died in March 2010 at age 69 and Lundy died in February 2007 at 71. Grier, who is 80, is the only surviving member of the Fearsome Foursome.

George Allen, who coached the Fearsome Foursome, called Jones the “greatest defensive end of modern football.” The Allen family had Jones present George Allen for his Hall of Fame induction in 2002. Continue reading

Justin Bieber VS. Keyshawn intense showdown At Singer’s Mansion

Keyshawn Johnson chased down a speeding Justin Bieber this weekend — and tried to confront the singer about his dangerous driving habits — but JB ran away like a scared little child … eyewitnesses tell TMZ.

Sources tell us … Keyshawn — a former NFL superstar — had just left a party Monday night inside of his exclusive gated community in Calabasas (with his child in the car), when Bieber zoomed by in his Ferrari at breakneck speeds.
We’re told Keyshawn was furious — feeling Justin could’ve killed someone — so he brought his kid home, then chased after the singer in his Prius (yes, a Prius chasing a Ferrari).

When KJ got to Bieber’s pad — he blocked Justin’s Ferrari in the driveway and got out of his car to confront Justin face-to-face … but Justin ran inside of his house and refused to come out.

FYI — Keyshawn is 6’4″, 212 lbs …  Justin’s about 5’7″, 110 lbs (soaking wet).
There’s more … sources say SEVERAL people witnessed the speeding incident — and say Justin was definitely in the driver’s seat. We’re told the witnesses told Sheriff’s deputies …  Bieber appeared stoned at the time.

We’re still waiting to hear from Bieber’s camp.

Wait there’s even more, now  NFL Hall of Famer is weighing in … Eric Dickerson, who also lives in Calabasas, just tweeted … “Justin Bieber needs to slow his ass down.”

JB got the NFL on his head. He better work on some more escape dance moves.

NFL: Robert Griffin III Wins Offensive Rookie Of The Year

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III won the Associated Press offensive rookie of the year award on Saturday night, tying a bow on a memorable season while also casting some optimism on the next one.Speaking for the first time since undergoing extensive knee surgery nearly four weeks ago,Griffin said his rehabilitation is already ahead of schedule and he has “no doubt” he’ll be ready to play next season.

“My goal is Week 1,” he said. “That’s all I’m really worried about.”

Griffin, who underwent surgery on his right knee on Jan. 9, said he’s been off crutches for nearly two weeks and was walking Saturday with only the slightest hint of a limp. Sporting a striped burgundy and gold neck tie, Griffin had no problem taking the stage at Mahalia Jackson Theater and accepting his award from New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees.

“It’s a truly a blessing to be up here and be able to stand, first and foremost,” Griffin told the star-studded crowd. “I had a tough injury there at the end of the season.”

The quarterback had made no public appearances since injuring his knee in theRedskins’ Jan. 6 playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks and likened Saturday night to a “coming-out party,” as he offered updates on his progress and his offseason hopes. Griffin said when Washington fans see him take the field next, they’ll notice changes. Continue reading

Reggie Bush Confirms Girlfriend’s Pregnancy

While on Florida’s Paul and Young Ron Morning Show Miami Dolphins star Reggie Bush confirmed his girlfriend Lilit Avagyan is pregnant with his first child but doesn’t know the baby’s sex yet. Reggie did add that if the baby is a girl he’s “going to the gun shop to buy some guns”.

It probably isn’t odd that both Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s exes are expecting at the same time, but we had to mention that……

Mother Of Terrell Owens Baby Still Wants To Get Paid!

One of Terrell Owens’ baby mamas has her fingers crossed that the recently-fired wide receiver lands a new NFL team all so she can keep getting paid.

T.O’s fourth baby mama, a woman named Melanie Paige Smith, filed papers earlier this month to block T.O.’s request to lower his massive child support payments. In the documents, Smith’s reasoning was largely based on the fact that T.O. had recently inked a deal with the Seattle Seahawks, for close to a $1,000,000 … and could afford to continue shelling out for his kid. But as of Sunday that’s not longer the case. As we reported yesterday, Terrell revealed via Twitter that he was axed by the NFL team and is currently a free agent. In other words …no more paycheck! Now Smith’s attorney, Randall Kessler, is saying T.O.’s career snag won’t affect his client’s request to keep the dough coming…at least for now. Instead she has her “fingers crossed that another team picks him up.”
