Celebrating The Life & Music Of J Dilla (2/7/74 – 2/10/06)

Born James Dewitt Yancey, the Hip Hop Super-Producer/Artist better know as Jay Dee & J Dilla, was considered one of the most influential hip hop artists in the music industry. With sentiments echoed by his good friend DJ House Shoes, “Dilla is the best producer…EVER in Hip Hop. Period.”

Taking off in the mid-90s, Dilla’s career spanned over a decade with some of his most notable work for Hip Hop and R&B/Soul artists such as The Pharcyde, Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Common, Busta Rhymes, Madlib, Dwele, Erykah Badu & Janet Jackson.

With a steady-rising career, Dilla continued to impact the music scene with his production, remixes, collaborations and vocal appearances until he began to experience health issues that resulted in weight loss and hospitalization. But that didn’t stop him from creating music or from even going on tour in Europe in late 2005 where he performed from a wheelchair. Even when his condition worsened, he had equipment brought to his hospital room where he made tracks bedside until he passed from complications of a rare blood disease called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).

So on this day five years ago this remarkable talent left us, and No U Aint Radio celebrates the life & music of J Dilla. Enjoy our music tribute.
