NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire proposed to his girlfriend of 10 years this past weekend….and she said yes. The New York Knicks forward slipped a custom designed engagement ring on the finger of Alexis Welch while they vacationed in Paris.
After spending the day on a private historical tour of Paris, Stoudemire surprised Welch with a romantic dinner on the balcony of their Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile Royal Suite where the couple had a perfect view of the Paris skyline and the lights of the Eiffel Tower. He posted on facebook:
The moment was surreal. I’m still floating. It’s great to allow someone, you truly trust and know, to take care of your heart. We have been deeply in love with each other for longer than most marriages last. Yesterday, day and night, was truly the best I ever had. The weather was great, the restaurant was fabulous, the city lights were so romantic. When she said yes, a tear fell from my eye.
Amar’e also released a statement announcing his proposal:
I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place. I am so happy she said ‘Yes’ and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife
The six-time NBA All-Star gave Alexis an 8.5 carat radiant cut ring, designed by celebrity jeweler Shayan Afshar, which is worth an estimated $1 million.
I wanted to design the right ring for her. I am having a great time looking over and seeing the engagement ring on her finger now.
The couple has been dating since 2002 and have three children together. Congratulations to both of them!
