Nicki Minaj cancelled her performance at Hot 97’s Summer Jam yesterday following an on stage “Starships” diss by radio personality Peter Rosenberg. While introducing upcoming Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, Rosenberg said, “We’re all about that real hip-hop, not ‘Starships,'” referring to Minaj’s current pop-oriented single. Of course boss man Lil’ Wayne didn’t take Rosenberg’s comment too lightly. He quickly took to Twitter.
Nicki followed the boss’ orders tweeting:
Minaj was set to perform with Nas and Lauryn Hill, and the two stars took the stage despite Minaj’s absence, with Hill joining Nas on “If I Ruled the World.” YMCMB label artist Tyga performed earlier in the day, before the spat.
Once Minaj withdrew, legendary Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex said, “We don’t fuck with commercial artists no more,” adding, “We don’t give a shit if you commercial or pop and you afraid to touch down in Jersey.” Rosenberg wrote on his own Twitter, “Tonight just got interesting g.”
