The word “b*tch” has been widely used in hip hop music over the years. So how ironic is it that Lupe Fiasco has been receiving some backlash for releasing the single “B*tch Bad,” which actually speaks out on some of the negative effects of the word’s use in music and the culture in general.
Is he a little preachy? Yes, by today’s musical standards…and in a society where mainstream television programming is full of “scripted” reality shows where woman fight to show they’re the “baddest b*tch.” But this joint does make you reflect on a different time in hip hop music. In the late 80’s & early 90’s, many more of the bigger hip hop artists used their voices to speak on social issues as well as having a good time.
So maybe we should commend Lupe Fiasco just for giving us something different…so now we can go back to poppin’ bottles. Check out the video and let us know what you think. Is it a good message or just a mess?
