Raekwon discusses his past beef with Joe Budden and says that it “jumped out of pocket.”
In 2009, the world of Hip Hop was shocked to learn that members of Raekwon’s entourage attacked Joe Buddenover comments Budden made about Method Man’s place on Vibe’s “Best Rapper Ever” list. Now, in a recent interview with DJ Vlad, the resident Chef of the Wu-Tang Clan speaks on their past beef.
Raekwon said that his feud with the Slaughterhouseemcee was never serious, and that he would be more than willing to make amends with Budden. He went on to explain that he was attempting to act as a middle man between Budden and Method Man when the situation “jumped out of pocket,” resulting in Budden being punched in the face.
“That [feud with Joe Budden] wasn’t nothing, that was bird shit right there,” Rae said. “I ain’t never seen him [since the incident]…[if he were to walk in now,] I’d be like, ‘Yo, I gotta talk to you right away,’ whether whatever current [feelings he has towards me] might come to my face, but it would definitely be like I wouldn’t steal on him, or act like I’m looking for this nigga like he stole something or took something from me. It’d be like, ‘Yo, we didn’t really straighten it out,’ and whatever it is.”
Rae continued, “It was like, wow, he said what he said, but it wasn’t nothing to where it was [real beef]. It’s one thing when a nigga is being disrespectful…it was more that kind of response, and when Meth heard about it, of course Meth wasn’t feeling it [and] he was going to say something…but however it jumped out of pocket, I’m just caught in the middle ‘cus I’m in the mix of doing my work and we’re in the same places [at Rock the Bells]…it wasn’t never like he was on the target, it was just like when Meth sees him, [he would approach him] ‘cus that’s what Meth wanted to do…I’m the middle man ‘cus I’m right there, I’m seeing this nigga. How’re you gonna be around niggas that’s talking about other niggas and then you’re in the mix…[but Meth and Joe] squashed it out, and I guess that everything is all happily ever after.”
