The world of hip-hop was not too happy last night when Macklemore took home the Best Rap Album at the 2014 GRAMMYs, but the Seattle MC knew that was coming. Before winning, he told The Source earlier this year, “In terms of [that category], I think it should go to Kendrick [Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city]. I understand why hip hop would feel like Kendrick got robbed [if we won].”
And then they won. But Macklemore wants everyone to know that he and the fellow Best New Artist nominee are not only on good terms, but they were cheering for each other hours before the awards got under way. The “Thrift Shop” rapper, who dominated the 2014 GRAMMYs, uploaded a screenshot of a text exchange between him and K. Dot, and it was nothing but love.
Kendrick texted Macklemore the morning of the GRAMMYs, “Lets get it bro! wake up call! we worked hard as f-ck!” Macklemore responded, “You already know homie. Time to celebrate!!! Congrats my friend. What a f-cking year.”
Macklemore captioned the photo on Instagram, “While the world debates… This is what we’re on. #grammys.” In other words, “There’s no bad blood” and/or “Calm down, a collabo’s on the way.” Hey, maybe! (Also, shout out to Mackelmore’s 1,053 unread texts. Whoa.)
