Kevin Durant Gets Engaged To WNBA’s Monica Wright

Congratulations are in order for Kevin Durant! Just weeks after signing a deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, he proposed to his basketball player girlfriend Monica Wright, and of course, she said “Yes.”

Over the weekend, the rumor mill was buzzing with reports that Kevin Durant had put a ring on it, after a photo emerged of the WNBA star wearing a huge rock on her finger, and the reports were confirmed last night.

After the Lynx game, Star Tribune writer Kent Youngblood posted to Twitter:

Post-game Monica Wright confirmed reports that she and Kevin Durant are engaged. So there’s that.

Seattle Storm forward Tina Thompson also spilled the beans beforehand when she tweeted:

Super CONGRATS to @monnie22 and @KDTrey5 two of my #faves so so so happy for you all! I love, love!

What’s super cute about this story is that back in 2011, Kevin Durant tweeted that he needed a basketball player girlfriend, while referencing the movie “Love & Basketball.” He not only snagged his basketball player girlfriend, but she ironically has the same name as the lead character in the movie.

They say “ask and you will receive…”

Here’s to ya’ll….

Kevin Durant donates $1 million to tornado victims

Oklahoma Thunder star Kevin Durant is donating $1 million to the Red Cross tornado and disaster relief fund to aid the victims of massive storms that devastated the greater Oklahoma City region Monday.

The All-Star forward has made large donations in the aftermath of tragedies and natural disasters in the past. In 2010, he donated $100,000 to the Athlete Relief Fund for Haiti, which paired Durant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and others to offer direct contributions to those directly impacted by earthquakes in Haiti.

Also, the NBA and its players’ association announced Tuesday that they will donate $1 million to support the relief efforts.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp pledged $1,000 per home run hit between Monday and the Major League Baseball All-Star break in July to the Oklahoma storm victims.

Kevin Durant playing Football???

Well since KD isn’t  ballin’ right now, NBA star Kevin Durant joined an intramural flag football game at Oklahoma State, where he led his team to a win and drew a crowd of about 500, The Oklahoman reports.

Late Monday afternoon, Durant tweeted to his million-plus followers, “This lockout is really boring..anybody playing flag football in Okc..I need to run around or something!”

One of those followers, George Overbey, responded, “Got a game tonight in Stillwater!! I need a deep threat!!”

Durant took Overbey up on his offer, picked him and his homie up at their house, and went on to throw for four touchdowns and intercept three passes for Sigma Nu, who Overbey made clear were the defending champs.

Overbey played high school ball with Blake Griffin at Oklahoma Christian School, according to the report.

Sarah McCubbin, a friend of Overbey’s, wrote in an email to The Oklahoman that Sigma Nu had to forfeit the game because Durant is not a member of the fraternity, costing the team its shot at its fourth-straight title.

It’s pretty clear, though, it was worth it for the fraternity brothers.

“I mean, talk about a dream come true,” McCubbin wrote to The Oklahoman. “I’d say by the end of the game there were 500+ people there.. all college students. He took pics, signed some autographs, had to have a police escort to get out of there, and then hopped in his party van and went back to OKC.”

LeBron James, apparently, wants a piece of the action, tweeting to Durant, “Team KD35 vs Team King James do I hear? Flag football. I have the best of field here in Akron. Day game or under the lights.”

Durant’s happy to accept the challenge: “Set it up! My team ready.”

Pop the hood on video footage from the game..We look forward to a game between Lebron and Kevin Durant. But we think that Lebron should be spending any extra time he has working on his suspect jump shot..We’re just sayin…

NBA Stars Come Out For Rematch Game Between The Drew and Goodman Leagues

On Sunday October 10, 2011 No U Ain’t Radio & The Tagg Team DJs were in the building as The Drew League and Goodman League squared off at Long Beach State’s Walter Pyramid for a much anticipated rematch of the August 20th game in our nation’s capital labeled “Capital Punishment,” in which the Goodman Team pulled out a 135-134 victory.

This game billed as “The Big Payback” featured a Washington-based Goodman League team comprised of NBA stars such as Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), John Wall (Washington Wizards) and Rudy Gay (Memphis Grizzlies). The Los Angeles-based Drew League team featured James Harden (Oklahoma City Thunder), Trevor Ariza (New Orleans Hornets), Brandon Jennings (Milwaukee Bucks) and Matt Barnes (Los Angeles Lakers).

John Wall scored a game-high 55 points, accompanied by Kevin Durant’s 50 points for the Goodman League. But when the dust settled, it was James Harden’s team-high 48 points that led The Drew League to a 151-144 victory.
