Ray Rice Writes Letter to the City of Baltimore, Apologizes for “Horrible Mistake”

via Complex

ray riceIt’s been almost exactly one year now since Ray Rice and his then-fiancé Janay Palmer were involved in a domestic violence incident inside of an elevator in an Atlantic City, N.J. hotel and casino. It turned their worlds upside-down. Since then, they’ve been through a lot—they’re married now and are still actively working to move past the incident—and it appears as though Rice is going to try to continue on with his NFL career next season after sitting all of last season out.

Rice probably won’t ever play in Baltimore for the Ravens again, though, so early this morning, the Baltimore Sun published a letter that he just wrote to the city and his former fans. In it, he apologizes for making a “horrible mistake” last February and asks for forgiveness. You can read the entire letter here: Continue reading

New Footage Shows Ray Rice and Janay Palmer Kissing While in Handcuffs Following Elevator Incident

Ray Rice may be officially reinstated into the NFL off a technicality, but the elevator incident still isn’t completely behind him. This time ,it’s because ABC News obtained more surveillance footage of Rice and his then-fiancee Janay Palmer showing the time after he hit her in the elevator.

None of it is quite as shocking as the footage already seen, but here we see Palmer’s emotional reaction in the time following the incident. We see her emotionally distraught and tearful as she at first rebukes the former star running back when he approaches her. Palmer eventually relents, though; they’re seen kissing while they’re both in handcuffs inside an elevator.

Rice went to court to stop ABC News from releasing this footage. His lawyer Peter Ginsberg said, “This is a time of healing and he, quite naturally, doesn’t want another media showing of what must have been the worst event of his life.” But that wasn’t a good enough reason. Rice lost the case, and that dark cloud still looms.

Reports Sohh:

“I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I’m mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it’s reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his a** off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don’t you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you’ve succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love!,” Mrs. Rice wrote September 9. (Janay Palmer-Rice’s Instagram)

This report claims the NFL may have known about the footage all along and may have reportedly turned a blind eye to seeing the footage earlier this year.

Commissioner Rodger Goodell made his disciplinary decision in the dark, which raises the question … Is that the way he wanted it? Sources connected with the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City tell TMZ Sports … NO ONE from the NFL ever asked for the video inside the elevator … video that was compelling enough to get Rice instantly fired. Details of the Baltimore Ravens’ decision to release Rice surfaced Monday (September 8) afternoon.

Ray Rice won’t get another chance with the Baltimore Ravens after all. He might not get a chance anywhere else in the NFL either. The Ravens announced they’ve terminated Rice’s contract Monday afternoon, hours after TMZ.com posted video of the embattled running back punching his then-fiancée during an altercation at an Atlantic City hotel in February.
